Learn about shorebirds at the March Second Saturday. Dr. Wayne Meyer will talk about what makes a bird a shorebird and what makes a refuge a good place for them. Learn about their migrations, their wintering strategies and their breeding opportunities. Then Dr. Meyer will focus in on identifying the 38 species of shorebirds that visit Hagerman NWR.
Second Saturdays at Hagerman NWR evolved after the second Red River Valley Birding and Nature Festival, held in December, 2006. A group of speakers had been identifed to serve as faculty for the first two festivals, giving the program committee a good starting point. Click
here for a list of all Second Saturday programs held from the beginning, April, 2007, through August 2013, and a huge thank you to all these volunteer presenters through the years!.
