RACHMANINOV SYMPHONIC DANCES
The first concert of the SSO’s 54th season features Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances. This piece characterizes life’s stages, from youth to death, in three movements. This was Rachmaninov’s last orchestral work–and includes excerpts from one of his earliest orchestral works (The Isle of the Dead). The music is a little spooky and it uses a giant orchestra with lots of additional instruments, including saxophone!
